New Song: ANALOG MIKE

I seem to have got into the habit of making songs over the weekend. Mostly I’m just stuffing around on Ableton with synths – I find it quite a nice break from animation work. This weekend I decided to use my Zoom H1 portable recorder to record some of my drums. I recorded some live loops and some individual drum sounds that I put into a drum rack. I then cut up the various pieces and sequenced it in Ableton Live. There’s a piano in my studio that hardly ever gets used (my brother mostly jams it when he’s here). Anyways, I recorded some piano too. I don’t have a bass guitar so I added the bass synth in Ableton. Then I got a hakkie sack and used it as a shaker (my egg shaker went AWOL during AfrikaBurn) and put some 8bit sounds in there. The result is something I’m pretty pleased with, I think because I used mostly analog recordings that have a lot more ‘humanity’ to them as opposed to neat digital sounds. Of course, in the right hands, purely digital can sound awesome.
